Hey North Shore families!

If your crew is more “climb trees, chase waves, throw rocks” than “sit still and smile,” you’re in the right place. I’m Tasha, your local lifestyle photographer who gets that kids aren’t props they’re tiny adventure machines who need room to roam.

I’ve updated my original North and West Vancouver location guide with fresh, kid-tested spots perfect for playful sessions that active families love. These aren’t crowded Instagram fields, they’re nature’s playgrounds where we capture real moments while everyone explores and has some fun. Think pink cheeks, muddy adventures, beach chases and forest romps that put fun first.

Each spot includes parking ease, kid factor rating, light info and why it’s gold for photos. Ready to plan your Family Adventure Session? Let’s dive in.

1. Deep Cove (The Classic Kid Magnet)

Why active families love it: Pebbly beach for skipping stones, docks for balance games, plus ice cream reward at the end.

Best for: Toddlers who love water + parents who want sunset giggles.

Pro tip: Hit low tide for tidal pools. Golden hour from the dock is magic.

Parking: Free but busy weekends.

2. Lynn Canyon Park (Adventure Central)

Why active families love it: Suspension bridge for brave selfies, shallow river for rock throwing, forest trails for hide-and-seek.

Best for: Energetic kids (5+) who need to burn energy before they burn out.

Pro tip: Skip the main bridge crowds. Secret lower trails have better light and zero tourists. Bring water shoes.

Access: 15min walk from parking, stroller unfriendly (wear the baby).

3. The Shipyards (Urban Jungle Gym)

Why active families love it: Climbing boulders, splash park (summer), food trucks for post-session snacks.

Best for: Families who want city vibes without downtown chaos.

Pro tip: Railings + industrial backdrops make teens look cool. Evening lights = urban fairy tale.

Parking: Meters but plentiful.

4. Cleveland Dam / Capilano River (Waterfall Wonderland)

Why active families love it: Rushing water sounds give instant calm, riverside paths for races, dam views for “wow” family portraits.

Best for: Dads who love dramatic nature shots + kids who navigate trails like pros.

Pro tip: Lynn Headwaters side trail will give us fewer crowds and epic mossy forests. Early morning is misty magic.

5. NEW: Panorama Park (The Hidden Beach Gem)

Why active families love it: Beach access, driftwood forts, shallow water perfect for wading. Feels like a secret.

Best for: Little kids building castles + parents chilling on logs.

Pro tip: Tide pools at low tide equals the very best treasure hunt. Sunset silhouettes over the water are frame-worthy.

6. NEW: Baden Powell Trail (Lynn Valley Sidequests)

Why active families love it: Endless short loops, tree tunnels, nurse logs for balance beams, seasonal salmon stream.

Best for: Older kids who want “hiking adventure” without actual hiking.

Pro tip: 20min from Lynn Canyon parking. Find the “fairy doors” – kids lose their minds.

7. NEW: Horseshoe Bay (West Van Beach Party)

Why active families love it: Sandy beach, climbing rocks, ferry views for waving games, ice cream shop victory lap.

Best for: Families willing to drive 20min for postcard beach + ferry backdrop.

Pro tip: High rock cliffs at sunset = epic silhouettes. Low tide = massive playground.
