Let me paint you a picture
The sun is melting into the ocean beyond Jericho Beach. There’s a baby being her adorable self splashing her toes at the water’s edge. Two brothers are attempting to topple their dad like a Jenga tower and in the middle of it all mom is laughing, the light is insane and I’m over here quietly losing my mind at how beautiful their family connection looks through my lens.
That’s a Tash Takes Pics family session. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Real Talk: Perfect Photos Come From Imperfect Moments
When families come to me, a lot of them have the same quiet fear: what if my kids don’t cooperate? What if they won’t sit still? What if someone cries? What if my child sticks out his tongue at the camera for the entire session? Spoiler: he did. And those are some of their favourites.
Here’s what I want you to know: the ‘imperfect’ moments are almost always the most magical ones. The wrestling matches, the goofy faces, the way little ones reach for their parents when they think no one’s watching. That stuff can’t be posed, it’s so fleeting that it can only be caught. And catching those moments is exactly what I love to do.
About This Session
This lovely family of five met me at Jericho Beach on one of those golden Vancouver evenings that feels like magic.
We explored the beach, we played, we chased the tide. The boys wrestled with dad and mom got one of those quiet, connected moments at the water’s edge with her baby that I know is going to be printed out to live on their wall for years.
By the time the sun dipped below the ocean, we had a full gallery of images that look exactly like them. Not a version of them with perfect posture and slightly strained smiles but actually them. Loud and warm and beautiful and maybe a tiny bit messy.
That’s the goal every single time.
